Last fall, my husband came to me and asked one of the questions that many wives love to hear, “do you want to do something really fun?”. I was so excited because you never know what comes after a question like that haha! I will say, I was not prepared for the Halloween couple photoshoot that he was about to suggest!
He followed up by asking if we could take fun halloween couple pictures with carved pumpkins on our heads. If you know my husband, you know that taking photos is not his favorite thing. It’s actually very hard to get him to take a photo! I was so excited and immediately jumped on board!
So, we drove to Costco, found the best pumpkins that we could find and hoped that they would fit over our heads! We carved the faces and embraced the halloween couple judgement of walking around with jack-o-lanterns on our heads. And it was some of the most fun we have had in a long time.
Halloween Couple Inspiration
Even though I was excited, I was curious how my husband came up with this idea. He said he looked up fun halloween couple ideas on Pinterest and he saw a photo and wanted to do something fun like that! Honestly, if you can convince your spouse or partner to do something like this, DO IT. We had SO much fun taking these photos and just being goofy with each other.
How to Make Your Halloween Couple Jack-O-Lanterns
You may be asking how exactly did they do that? I’ll tell you! First, we went to Costco and held up almost every pumpkin they had to see if it might fit over each of our heads. We got the biggest ones that we could find and hoped for the best!
Second, we carved out the holes on the bottom and got all of the pumpkin gunk out. It is very important to measure the hole to ensure that it will fit over your head before carving anything into the face of the pumpkin. We both had to make the holes much larger than we anticipated. Another thing to consider is where the pumpkin will sit on your head. Both of our pumpkins had large bumps where the stem sat. We had to really carve the inside to help make that section of the pumpkin as flat as we could so that the pumpkin actually sat normally on our heads.
Third, you will choose your jack-o-lantern’s face! We opted for lighthearted faces. We wanted a mixture of fun daylight pictures and spooky night time photos. Once we knew the goal of our photos, we felt that a lighthearted face was the perfect combination of both goals for these fun halloween couple photos.
Fourth, this wasn’t something that we considered until it was time to actually put the pumpkins on our heads. Find something to put over your hair! We found a few walmart bags and used those but a shower cap would have worked much better haha!
Fifth, go out and take a bunch of different photos! Have fun with it! We had so much fun walking and running around taking silly photos with each other. It was a really great way of getting some Halloween couple photos but also just having fun together. It will make you laugh more than you think and you will have some really fun photos to look back on!
