Rustic Bedroom Design

One of my favorite projects was transforming this bedroom into a rustic, spring oasis. One of my goals was to take the rustic elements of the furniture and create a calm atmosphere with florals, earthy tones and neutral colors. This room quickly became one of my favorite projects to see come to life! Below, I dive into the details that make up this rustic bedroom design!

Paint

To create the outdoor, spring, oasis feel, I wanted either a neutral or pastel color to bring a calmness to the walls. A neutral color, such as white or gray, would have been beautiful. But, to bring some definition to the space, I felt that an earthy pastel color would bring a more calming sense to the space. I chose to use Sage Green from Sherwin Williams.

Furniture

I tied in the rustic aspects of this design with the furniture. I wanted the bed to have a wood base that gave weight to the room. With the bed being a heavy piece, I decided the nightstands needed to be lighter to offset the bed. This will keep the overall weight of the room lighter. The dresser was a special piece. Not in sentimental value but in how it came to life. We refurbished this $15 dresser that we found at goodwill! The body is made with particle board which we sanded down to give the white paint a distressed wood look. We also changed the knobs on the drawers to give it a nicer aesthetic.

Bedding

I decided white and neutral bedding would be best to balance the color on the wall. I used this pintuck duvet cover in white to add a subtle design on the bed while keeping the design simple overall. You walk in to feel the inviting pastel green walls with the crisp white bedding for a clean and calming feeling to the space. I used pleated gray king size pillows to add a deeper contrasting color within the bedding and tie in all of the colors within the furniture.

Decor

One of the ways I wanted to incorporate the peacefulness of a spring meadow was with flowers. I wanted to use something that truly brought the outdoors inside. I was able to find large sticks from a tree which I glued faux flowers and greenery onto. This brings a piece of the outdoors inside without having to keep anything alive or look at dead flowers. You can get faux flowers from various places such as Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Etsy, Target, Crate & Barrel, and Pottery Barn.

I also used neutral tones in other decor items. The white ceramic lamps, weathered gray terracotta vase, and silver knobs with feather imprints on the dresser. These small details will help bring all of the larger details together. Having the small pops of light and dark colors, patterns and textures help tie in the neutral and pastel colors throughout the space.
