Refresh your home on a budget

Refreshing your home can be HARD. Trust me, as someone who studied design, I understand how frustrating it can be to look at a space that you once loved and feel taunted by the idea of changing it. I also understand having the desire for change but not having money it seems is required to make the changes you want. Here are my tips and tricks to refresh your home on a budget!

Welcome to my quick, easy and affordable guide to spruce up a space and make it reflect more of YOU. I am here to give you some inspiration and ideas that will completely transform your space without breaking the bank!

Rearrange the furniture

  1. Sometimes simply moving a few pieces of furniture around can transform a room! Move a bookshelf to the other side of the room. This will open up a section of a room which will give some character to another area that you are not necessarily used to! If you have the space, rearrange the sofa and chairs. Rearranging furniture can make a space feel so different and exciting without buying something new!

Swap your pictures and picture frames

  1. A really easy thing that you can do is switch all of the pictures in your frames! You can use the same photos that you have. Just put them in a different frame and rearrange around your home! It will feel new and like you have new life in each space!
  2. Another thing that you can utilize are the very affordable downloadables from Etsy! There are beautiful photos, quotes and artwork pieces available for less than $10 on Etsy. You can download and print them yourself and add them to your current frames! Add words of encouragement, photos of places you dream of visiting or have been to or just pictures that bring you joy! This will help bring new excitement to the space.

Flowers

    1. Get three or four vases and add some flowers throughout your house. You can buy very affordable and beautiful vases from HomeGoods, Hobby Lobby, Target and even Walmart that you can place around your home! Buy fresh flowers to put them around your home throughout the week! My favorite place to buy flowers is Trader Joes. They have some of the best selections at a very affordable price! If you do not live near a TJ’s, I would recommend your local grocery store or greenery shop. You can also elect to purchase faux flowers and plants! I personally like being able to change them out throughout the weeks but also understand that can be costly over time.

PILLOWS

    1. Every man’s favorite argument haha! Pillows can truly add to a space. Whether it be a bedroom, family room, nook or study, pillows can be used in so many different ways! They add a simple pop of color, a unique or fun pattern if you have a lot of solids, or can add decoration for various seasons. Pillows can be utilized to create layers, dimension on sofas and bedding but also add comfort. When you are tired of certain pillows, try selling them on facebook marketplace and then buy new ones using the money you just made! You can find beautiful options at Home Goods, Target, Walmart, West Elm, Anthropologie (more $$) and many other places. A fun secret of mine, I found my favorite Euro pillows at Walmart. Many people skip Walmart but don’t write them off just yet!

Decor Items

    1. Other ways you can change a space is utilizing your current decor items in new spaces. If you have a lot of books, shift them around. Stack them vertically and horizontally to add variation. Place some of your favorite books on the coffee table or entry table with a candle on top.
    2. Change some vases or a lamp shade. Most lamps and lamp shades are sold separately. If you have a white shade, try buying a new lamp base to add more color or dimension. Hang up some hats or purses to add decor to your wall. This will give you decor AND storage!
    3. Switch out the knobs on your furniture pieces if you have them! You can buy decorative knobs for your dresser or storage pieces on Etsy and Amazon! Anthropologie has beautiful options as well!
    4. Purchase baskets to hold blankets or handheld items such as remotes, phone charges and other little trinkets that you use daily. This will help with organization and make it look good while doing it!

Refreshing your home does not have to be hard or expensive! While it can be good to splurge on some new items here and there, it is not necessary. You can always refresh on a budget! Do not give up on the things that you once loved that feel older now. Sometimes seeing the items you once loved in a new light can rekindle that fire you have for it!

  1. Hello Syd- how exciting to see you in this space. My niece has a YouTube channel (Maggie’s two cents) and this blog aligns nicely. I just read Reminders of Him and I became a CoHo convert with Verity then Ugly Love. I love your simple and affordable design ideas. Looking forward to a cooking tip and also an idea for sprucing up a bathroom or master bedroom.
