August was a busy month! Between packing everything, moving from Texas to Arizona, unpacking and getting settled, traveling, etc, I wasn’t able to read much. Especially as much as I did during July! But, I did read enough to do my August monthly book review!
This month, I finally read Where The Crawdads Sing and began another book called A Lineage Of Grace. I talk about both novels below and what I thought or have thought about them so far. Let me know if you have read either of these and your thoughts in the comments below!
Where The Crawdads Sing – By: Delia Owens
I know that this book has been popular for a few years now, but I FINALLY read it! I am not the biggest fan of the books included in Reese Witherspoon’s book club so I had a lot of apprehension at first. However, I will be the first to admit that I was wrong because this book is beautifully written. This will definitely be one of my favorite books that I read this year.
The book takes place in two different time frames. One is in the 1950’s following Kya through the beginning years of her life. The second is set in 1970 when a local boy is murdered with no witnesses or any details of a suspect. Throughout the story you learn more about who Kya is and how she becomes known at the “Marsh Girl”. You also see her stay true to who she is through bullying, abandonment, poverty and judgments from the town’s people.
This story is a beautiful testament about staying true to who you are and what you love. It is a story about overcoming the cards that you are dealt and circumstances you never thought you would be in. I think that it is one of the greatest novels of our generation. You can get your copy here.
A Lineage Of Grace – By: Karen Kingsbury
This is a book with a series of 5 stories about 5 incredible women of the Bible. Each of the stories is a fictional representation of what these women went through during their lives.
Tamar: a woman of Hope
Rahab: a woman of Faith
Ruth: a woman of Love
Bathsheba: a woman who received Unlimited Grace
Mary: a woman of Obedience
I began reading this book and want to talk about the first story, Unveiled. Tamar is chosen by Judah, son of Jacob, to marry his first born son, Er. Judah’s sons are strong, wild and destructive men so naturally, Tamar is scared for her future. But, being the gracious woman that she is, she held her head high and decided she would be the best wife and daughter in law possible. Through physical, emotional and mental abuse, Tamar held onto hope that she would become a mother and fulfill her duty to produce a son to her husband.
Through extraordinarily tough circumstances, heartache, and abuse, Tamar never gives up hope. She stands strong in her faith and discovery of who God is and what His will is for her life. It is a beautiful story of a woman who strives to find herself in the Lord and remain hopeful in the hardest of times. You can grab your copy here.
I encourage you to read both of these stories if you have not already! Let me know your thoughts if you have read them! Stay tuned next month for the remaining stories of “A Lineage of Grace” and a few other amazing books I have on the list!
Love this!
