Irish coffee recipe

An Irish Coffee is such a simple yet delicious drink for the cooler time of the year. This is one of my favorite drinks to sip on during the winter months. This can be a very comforting cocktail but I will warn you, it can be very strong. This is my Irish coffee recipe!

An Irish coffee is a great combination of a coffee beverage mixed with a cocktail. Based on a cup of hot coffee mixed with Irish whiskey and syrup for sweetness, this is a delicious cocktail. Finish it off with a topping of whipped cream! It is very similar to the espresso martini except it is whiskey based and hot in temperature. So, very different but similar in some ways.

Cocktail Directions

  1. Brew a few cups of your preferred coffee. In my opinion, a house blend dark roast coffee is the best choice for this cocktail.
  2. Pour your whiskey and brown sugar into a tall, heat protected glass. Add a splash of hot coffee and stir until the brown sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add the remaining coffee and stir. If the drink is too bitter for your liking, add some additional sugar to sweeten it up a bit.
  4. Top with some chilled whipped cream.
  5. ENJOY!

Cocktail Notes

There are a lot of different sweeteners that can be used to help cut the intense flavor of whiskey. I prefer brown sugar because of how the flavor of the sugar and whiskey blend together. You can use regular sugar, maple syrup, agave or honey. You can also use Bailey’s liquor to sweeten it while also adding a creamy texture. While all of these are great options, they each bring their own flavor which can affect the flavor of the cocktail.

An Irish coffee recipe can be very different for each person. The flavors of this drink can be very tricky. You are mixing a lot of different flavors that are not straight forward. The coffee that you use can have a distinct flavor so I would try and use one that doesn’t have a particular flavor to it. The whiskey is also important. It’s important to use an Irish whiskey such as Jameson whiskey. Along with the sweetener, it is important that you know it can take a while to find the perfect combination that you prefer.
